01How do I start, and what does it cost to ask?
Send your pathology report, imaging and a short history through the form or WhatsApp. The case review by the tumour board is free and you receive a written recommendation within 48 hours. You only pay if you decide to come for treatment.
02Do I need to repeat scans and biopsies done at home?
Not necessarily. Pathology slides and imaging files (DICOM) are reviewed by Acıbadem specialists. Tests are repeated only when they are too old, incomplete, or when a decision depends on a result that cannot be verified.
03What does a tumour board actually do?
It is a weekly meeting where medical, radiation and surgical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and nuclear medicine physicians discuss cases together. The result is one plan with the order of treatments agreed by all specialties, not separate opinions.
04How quickly can treatment start after I arrive?
For patients whose reports were reviewed in advance, the first consultation is usually within a day of arrival and planning starts the same week. Radiotherapy needs a planning CT and a few days of dosimetry; systemic therapy can start as soon as blood tests allow.
05Is proton therapy available?
No. Acıbadem hospitals operate linear accelerators for IMRT, VMAT, SBRT and image-guided radiotherapy, plus CyberKnife and Gamma Knife radiosurgery and brachytherapy. For the great majority of indications these deliver an equivalent outcome; if your case specifically needs protons, the tumour board will say so.
06Can I get immunotherapy or CAR-T in Turkey?
Checkpoint inhibitors, targeted therapies and bispecific antibodies are in routine use. CAR-T is available for eligible lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma patients through the haematology and bone marrow transplant units, with cell products prepared at Acıbadem LabCell.
07Who will I talk to during treatment?
One international patient coordinator stays with you from the first e-mail to follow-up at home, alongside your treating physician and nurse. Interpreters are provided for consultations.
08What happens after I go home?
Your discharge summary, pathology and imaging are shared with you and, with your consent, your local physician. Follow-up consultations can be done online and the coordinator remains your contact.
09Can a clinical trial be part of my plan?
Yes. If a listed study matches your diagnosis and stage, the research coordinator checks eligibility as part of the case review. Participation is voluntary, study drugs and study-related tests are free, and you can withdraw at any time.
10Will I get a placebo instead of treatment?
In cancer trials this practically never happens. Where a placebo is used, it is added on top of the best available standard treatment, and the consent form states this clearly.
11Are international patients accepted in trials?
Eligibility depends on your health and diagnosis, not nationality. You must be able to attend all study visits at the Acıbadem site, which coordinators help you plan.
12How are costs estimated?
After the case review you receive a written plan with a cost estimate covering physician fees, hospital stay, procedures, medication and planned follow-up. Anything outside the plan is discussed with you before it is done.
13Does insurance cover treatment at Acıbadem?
Many international insurers and embassies have direct agreements. The coordinator checks your policy and, where possible, arranges a guarantee of payment before you travel.
14Where do I stay, and can a companion come?
Coordinators arrange hotel or serviced apartment options near the hospital, airport transfers and visa invitation letters for you and one companion. Companions can stay in the room for inpatient treatment.
