About

Prof. Başak Oyan Uluç, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Medical Oncology Department. With more than 30 years in medicine, her practice centers on the evaluation and medical treatment planning of solid tumors, including lung and other thoracic cancers, breast cancer, head and neck cancers, gynecological tumors, brain tumors, and skin tumors.

Dr. Uluç graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1996. She completed her Internal Medicine training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2001 and her Medical Oncology training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2004, the same year she obtained the European Certification in Medical Oncology. She then joined Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine, where she became Associate Professor and, in 2012, Professor. In 2017 she was appointed Professor at Acibadem University Faculty of Medicine and took part in the Dana Farber/Partners Cancer Care Oncology Visiting Physician Program in Boston. She served as Secretary General of the Turkish Medical Oncology Association (TTOD) from 2014 to 2016 and as President of the Oncology and Immunotherapy Association from 2021 to 2024. Her memberships include the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Turkish Oncology Group Association (TOG) and the Istanbul Breast Diseases Association.

Clinical focus

As a medical oncologist, Dr. Uluç is involved in the drug-based treatment of solid tumors and in planning care alongside other specialties. Her areas of expertise include lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, breast cancer, including male breast cancer, head and neck cancers and oral cancer, brain tumors, gynecological tumors such as endometrial cancer, anal cancer, and malignant melanoma and other skin tumors.

Her published research reflects these interests. She has contributed to multicenter studies of the Turkish Oncology Group on topics such as immunotherapy for lung cancer, ALK-positive non-small cell lung cancer, treatment options for hormone receptor-positive and HER2-positive breast cancer, adjuvant treatment in residual triple negative breast cancer, pleural mesothelioma, and third-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer. Treatment recommendations for each patient depend on the type and stage of the tumor, pathology and imaging findings, previous therapies, and the patient’s overall health.

How Dr. Uluç works with international patients

Dr. Uluç consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before traveling or as part of follow-up.
