About

Prof. Gülsan Sucak, MD is a hematologist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where she practices within the Hematology Department. Her clinical work covers blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma, bone marrow diseases, anemia, bleeding and clotting disorders, and bone marrow transplantation. She has more than 39 years of experience in medicine.

Dr. Sucak graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1987. She completed her training in Internal Medicine at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1993 and her training in Hematology at the same faculty in 1999. Between 1993 and 1995 she worked as an Internal Medicine Specialist at Ankara Sevgi Hospital, and from 1995 to 1996 as an Internal Medicine consultant at Ankara Zekai Tahir Burak Training and Research Hospital. Her academic career at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Hematology, progressed from Assistant Associate Professor (1999–2000) to Associate Professor (2000–2008) and Professor (2008–2015). In 2015 she joined the Bahçelievler- Medicalpark Hospital, Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit, and in 2024 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. She is a co-author of peer-reviewed publications on topics including hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, tuberculosis infection in stem cell transplantation recipients, early transplant complications after allogeneic stem cell transplantation, COVID-19 infection in patients with acute leukemia, and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Clinical focus

Dr. Sucak evaluates and treats patients with malignant blood diseases, including leukemia, with a focus on acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia, as well as lymphoma, myeloproliferative diseases, multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders. Her work also includes bone marrow diseases and bone marrow transplantation, an area reflected in several of her publications on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

In addition to blood cancers, she sees patients with non-malignant hematological conditions such as anemia, bleeding disorders and clotting disorders. The appropriate assessment and treatment plan depends on the individual diagnosis and is discussed with each patient after a review of the relevant findings.

How Dr. Sucak works with international patients

Dr. Sucak consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging, laboratory results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before or instead of traveling.
